Ein sattes Cadmium-Gelb, von der Mitte des Holzes zu seinen Rändern fließend, mit der dicken Konsistenz von Eidotter. Aufgehalten durch eine scharfe dunkelblaue Linie, die die unteren Kanten des Bildes umschließt wie eine Kontur, welche begrenzt und gleichsam trägt. Ein gewundenes florales Muster aus Rottönen und Aegeanblau, tiefdunkel bis blass. Gerundete Unterkanten und vertikale chiffon-weiße Streifen, die sich massiv und sanft zugleich über das Muster legen und es beinahe verstummen lassen.
Ein Wort erhält neue Bedeutungen, wenn man es mit anderen Wörtern zu einem Satz verbindet. Isabelles Arbeit folgt demselben Prinzip. Ihre Bilder ergänzen sich aber nicht einfach zu einem Ganzen, sie reagieren aufeinander, verstärken sich, stoßen sich ab, verändern sich. Sie passen nicht, sie kohabitieren. Einige sind ideale Partner, andere können sich nicht ertragen. Die Ausstellung TAKE THE SAME AND REPEAT, vom französischen On prend les mêmes et on recommence, ist ein Reset, eine Reorganisation der Werke zu einem neuen Ensemble, ständig oszillierend zwischen bildhafter Illusion und reiner Präsenz, zwischen emotionaler Berührung und ironischer Distanz.
First, a thick Cadmium yellow, widely spread out from the middle of an almost square wooden panel to the sides, with the bold consistency of an egg yolk stopped by a sharp and shady blue line that closes the bottom corners of the painting, like a contour, precluding the yellow form while supporting it. Further on, a rather gestural floral pattern with Cadmium red tones and a creamy Aegean blue that goes from deep dark to pale. The bottom corners of the format are cut round and the floral motive is overlapped by two chiffon-white bands, solid but appeasing, partly shutting up the pattern.
Assembling a word with other words gives it a new dimension and forms a sentence – Isabelle’s paintings have an analogous configuration. They don’t however only complete each other to make a whole, they are at odds, disagree, respond with variances or enhance each other. Isabelle’s pieces don’t fit, they cohabit. Some are absolute partners while others can hardly bare each other. The show TAKE THE SAME AND REPEAT, from the French expression On prend les mêmes et on recommence, is a reset, a readjustment of works forming a new ensemble, oscillating between illusion and pictorial presence with emotion and irony.
